The 16th annual Math Steeplechase was held on Wednesday, April 28th, 2004. Rick Hill is the founder of the event, while Ken Koppelman (MHS Math Teacher, founder of the MHS Math website) has been one of the organizers of the event since its inception. Students from most Sonoma County high schools (public and private) participate every year, and normally the event has about 100 participants.
During the event, there are typically three courses. Students are placed in teams of three or four students. Freshman/Sophomore teams and Junior/Senior teams are formed, and each team is composed of students from different schools. Each team moves through 8 stations solving very interesting non-traditional math problems.
At the end of the competition, students had a great lunch under the Oaks while the team scores were determined. After lunch, there was an awards ceremony in which 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were announced for Freshman/Sophomore teams and for Junior/Senior teams.
After the awards assembly, there was a short question and answer period regarding the problems that were presented to the students at each station.

The 11th grade winner did not wish to be featured on the website.
All the students including the participants from Montgomery had a great time and each one left with a tee shirt commemorating the event.
